About reddvideo.tube
History of reddvideo.tube
reddvideo.tube started as an independent video-downloading tool designed to help users save publicly available videos shared on the online forum and social platform reddit.com.
The original domain was reddit.tube. The idea was simple: allow users to download a video by replacing the .com part of a Reddit URL with .tube,
making the process intuitive and easy to remember.
Reddit videos are commonly delivered as separate video and audio streams, which makes direct downloads with sound more complex for non-technical users. When the project started in 2018, there were very limited tools that allowed users to easily download Reddit videos with merged audio. Our initial goal was simply to make it easier to save and share those videos across messaging apps and other platforms.
As part of the download process, we implemented a system that merges video and audio streams into a single MP4 file. This operation can take from a few seconds to several minutes depending on video length and quality. Over time, we observed that many of the same videos were requested repeatedly by different users.
To improve performance and reduce redundant processing, we began temporarily storing processed videos on our servers. This significantly reduced download times for popular videos and improved the overall user experience. Since those videos were already being processed and stored, we later made them browsable on the site, allowing users to discover previously shared content.
This evolution transformed the platform into a curated archive of Reddit-shared videos, intended as a complementary browsing experience. In some cases, users may find older content that is no longer easily accessible through Reddit’s native interface.
To keep the service operational and sustainable, limited advertising was introduced. Operating costs increase significantly with traffic growth, storage requirements, and server infrastructure. While we aim to keep advertising to a minimum, revenue fluctuations—especially those caused by search engine algorithm updates—can make this challenging. Storage and infrastructure costs remain relatively stable regardless of traffic volume.
The core spirit of the platform has remained unchanged. Our goal is to allow users to download and browse videos that were publicly shared by Reddit users, regardless of category or topic, provided that such content complies with applicable laws and platform policies.
From the beginning, we recognized that certain content may be restricted or unlawful in specific jurisdictions. For this reason, we actively moderate the platform and remove content on a regular basis for legal, policy, or compliance-related reasons.
Domain update (2025)
In 2025, we decided to migrate the platform to a new domain, reddvideo.tube, as part of a long-term effort to clearly differentiate our independent service from any third-party brands.
This decision was taken in the interest of transparency, brand clarity, and to avoid any potential confusion regarding trademarks that are not owned or operated by us.
During this transition, the domain redd.tube experienced a temporary suspension as part of a domain dispute process initiated by a third party. While that process is being handled through the appropriate legal and administrative channels, the platform itself has remained operational.
Because search engines require time to recognize permanent domain changes, some redirections may remain active for a limited period to ensure a smooth migration and to prevent disruption to users who rely on previously indexed links.
Our mission remains unchanged: to provide an independent tool that allows users to download and browse publicly available Reddit videos, without any affiliation with Reddit Inc. or other third-party brands.
